What is composite bonding?

We use composite bonding to repair and improve the appearance of teeth.

A tooth-coloured composite material is bonded to the tooth, hand-sculpted into shape, hardened, and then polished.

As dentists, we use composite bonding to repair chipped or cracked teeth, close gaps between teeth, reshape teeth, and cover discolorations.

Treatment is relatively quick and usually doesn’t require anaesthesia unless it’s being used to fill a cavity.

What does the treatment involve?

Your dentist will take care of you throughout the procedure, maintaining good moisture control so that the bonding material does not become contaminated with saliva during its placement.

Your dentist will apply a gentle solution to your teeth to help the material stay in place (this is a painless process).

The bonding material is a putty-type material, which your dentist will place onto the tooth surface before shaping and sculpting. Your dentist will then use a special light to harden the material so that it sets in place.

In the final step, your dentist will shape, polish and buff the material for a smooth finish. This final step may take some time.

How long will the composite last for?

Usually between 3 – 6 years.

Can I change my mind and go back?

Yes, in most cases the composite bonding material can be removed. However, please remember that doing so will incur costs not covered by the initial treatment plan pricing.

When the time comes to remove the bonding material, will there be possible damage to my natural tooth enamel?

Yes

Can the bonding material chip or fracture?

Yes – expect to pay £150-200 per chip / fracture to have the material repaired. This will incur costs not covered by the initial treatment plan fee structure.

Will the bonding material discolour over time?

Yes.

Is the price listed the price I will pay?

If you are new to Pear Dental, you will need to have a new patient examination plus x-rays before we can commence the treatment.

In some cases, there may be additional preventative or restorative treatments that are required before we can commence the treatment.

Any additional costs will be agreed with you before we commence treatment.
